Suomen merimies
Ordinary seafaring people

Infine Arts is pleased to invite you to the new web-exhibition "Ordinary Seafaring People",
a voyage at sea with Jacopo Brancati, heading for the Boreal latitudes.

With "Ordinary Seafaring People"  the author presents a gallery of portraits conceived as a tribute to Finnish seamen and to their work in the extreme conditions of the Subarctic.

The faces are those offered by hazardous encounters: maritime pilots and boatsmen, captains and sailors; the places are pilot stations scattered along the Finnish coastline, bridges of ships saling northward or westward; the situations are those in which seafaring people ordinarily work day and night, out at sea or on the ice-pack.

"Ordinary Seafaring People", describes a world where men have to surpass themself and confront the dangers of a rough, wild nature if they want to survive and to work.
There is a "consciousness" in their way of life that seems to come from the past, a legacy of knowledge and experience helping them in each working day.
Ordinary seafaring people, actually.
